Original equipment manufacturers in specialized automotive, mining, agriculture, and industrial sectors seek a centralized operational hub that can provide forging, machining, heat treating, welding and assembly. The goal is to reduce delays and costs associated with obtaining separate quotes and transporting components between facilities.

Sypris Technologies has firmly established itself as a premier manufacturer and supplier of drivetrain and other critical components for commercial vehicle, automotive, recreational vehicle, mining, agricultural, industrial and energy markets. Based in Toluca Mexico, it offers engineering design assistance, process development, tooling creation and production, forging, machining, heat treatment, welding, and assembly, all from a single facility. The company primarily serves markets, including commercial vehicles, light trucks, specialized automotive, off-highway, ATV/UTV, and industrial sectors. It also produces specialized pipeline components for applications in oil, gas, and petrochemical processing.

“We offer a complete solution, with requisite quality systems certifications and optimized processes to deliver top quality, on time and exceeding customer expectations,” says Jeff Davis, Director of business development.

Upon receiving project inquiries, Sypris collects information about application details, drawings, specifications, forecast volumes, and timing expectations. The company evaluates the project’s compatibility with Sypris equipment, potential for investment, and various processes. Subsequently, the engineering team conducts an assessment of technical viability, including technical viability with its existing equipment and processes. Following this evaluation, Sypris develops and presents a final quote to potential clients. It actively engages in comprehending strategic needs and fostering dynamic supply chain partnerships to collectively innovate and provide value-added solutions.

Innovation is a hallmark of Sypris Technologies, which continually introduces new products like Sypris Ultra® axle shafts, Pig Signalers (for pipeline inspection), Pipe Pup Insulated Joints, and soon Sypris Performance Products with patented designs and technologies. At the heart of its operations is the Sypris Development Center (SDC), functioning as a hub for tooling, product and process design.

Staffed with skilled engineers well-versed in Deform, FEA, and various modeling techniques, the SDC plays a vital role in bolstering product development capabilities, efficiently overseeing customer projects, developing optimized manufacturing processes and expediting the total time to production.

Going the extra mile in providing innovative solutions to clients, Sypris Technologies automotive team partnered with the engineering group of a European based transmission manufacturer on an ambitious sports car transmission development project. They sought a reliable manufacturer and supplier for shaft components. Leveraging the SDC, Sypris prototyped various designs in collaboration with the client’s engineering team. Its state-of-the-art tools and expertise in manufacturing proved invaluable in cost reduction and improvement. As the client tested different designs, Sypris provided prototypes and assisted in enhancing part durability. After an intense, two-year development process, the client successfully launched its product. The experience forged a strong and enduring collaboration.

Another notable success story is the development of Sypris’ proprietary axle shaft. Truck OEM’s seeking to differentiate themselves by reducing overall vehicle weight and durability inspired Sypris’ team. Through advanced computational tools, its engineers identified low-stress areas, effectively eliminating excess material without compromising strength. Utilizing upgraded steel, refined processing, and ingenious design, it achieved an impressive weight reduction of nearly seven pounds per shaft, equivalent to 15 percent of the total weight. This breakthrough led to the creation of Sypris Ultra® which is stronger and more durable than typical axle shafts while weighing less and using less raw material.

Sypris Ultra® meets the demands of heavy truck applications as a lightweight axle shaft, renowned for its quality, performance, and cost-effectiveness. Its compatibility with existing components simplifies the process of upgrading from older technologies.

Operating in Kentucky, USA, and Toluca, Mexico, Sypris is able to tailor optimal solutions for its diverse customer base across oil and gas and automotive industries. Both locations provide reliable material handling and product shipping capabilities.

Sypris Technologies is resolutely dedicated to affirming itself as the leading supply chain partner within its core markets. It focuses on actively engaging with clients in the pursuit of effective solutions to business challenges.
